'The Indian Street Food / Street Food of Chennai was fantastic and now it was time to savour a South Indian Thali on a banana leaf ! The vegetarian thali / veg thali called the Rajbhog Thali was not as big as the Ponnusamy Hotel Thali, Biggest Thali or the Bahubali Thali but this indian thali was more than enough for one person and it had loads of authentic south indian food. I have always eaten south indian food as indian street food in many places across india but it was a delight to try it in Chennai ! Malgudi Restaurant at Hotel Savera in Chennai serves the must authentic south Indian food for the last fifty years and this restaurant is an institution for south Indian food. It has influence from Madurai food and other regions of South India. The Rajbhog Thali consists of the following - MURUNGA ELAI CHARU / DRUMSTICK SOUP - Drumstick leaf and lentil soup made with ginger and garlic. KAIKARI PAKODA / MIX PAKODA - Finely chopped mix vegetable pakoras made using chickpea batter. CABBAGE BONDA - Chickpea batter balls made with cabbage. KOLKATAI - Rice dumplings made with onion and green chillies. KUDAMELAGA MANGA SAMBAR - Classic south indian lentil prepration made with southern spices like mustard seeds and curry leaves. MELAGU RASAM - A South indian digestive curry, very thin in its consistency, best had with steamed rice. KEERAI KOOTU / PALAK DAL- Lentil prepration made with spinach leaves. KARAMANI PORIYAL / BEAN SABJI - Dry vegetable made with string beans, onion and tomatoes. MORE KOZHAMBU - Coconut milk and curd curry seasoned with turmeric. BENDAKAYA VEPUDU / BHENDI SABJI - Dry bhindi / lady finger prepration made Andhra style with dry mangoes and southern spices. BATATA BATTANI GASSI / ALOO TAMATAR - Coconut milk based curry of potato and green peas. Mild in its flavour with a hint of sweetness coming from coconut milk. PONDU VENGAYA KOZHAMBU / PYAZ SABJI - A Shallot and garlic pod curry made in a tamarind base curry. Sour and spicy in its flavt, best rated with steamed rice. KADALA CURRY / CHANA CURRY - A kala chana curry made kerela style with mustard seeds and curry leaves. KAIKARI BIRYANI - Mix vegetable biryani that\'s made with whole spices with black pepper being in the forefront. ADA PRADHAMAN / KHEER - Payasam is basically kheer that\'s sweetened with jaggery. TIRUNELVELI HALWA - A halwa made in tirunelveli city, it\'s sticky in texture and made with pure desi ghee. Loved the garnishing of dry fruits.
